For You, About You Dentistry

A tribute to all the dedicated dads out there for Honoring Hardworking Dads for Father’s Day 2021

Honoring Hardworking Dads for Father’s Day 2021 Just like moms, dads play such a big role in the family.

They give valuable life advice, show us the ropes, teach us how to lead by example, tell plenty of dad jokes, and so much more.

With Father’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to dedicate a blog to all the loving and devoted dads out there, including the ones we’re lucky enough to have here at Dental Express!

In today’s article, we’ll be sharing the stories of a few of our doctors that have become such an integral part of our family while supporting and nurturing their own.

That being said, this article goes out to all our dads here at Dental Express. Our company wouldn’t be the same without you, and we’re beyond grateful to have you on the team!

Doctor Jamie Ferguson

Dr. Jamie’s journey to becoming a dentist is a rather unorthodox one. Before pursuing a career in dentistry, he decided to join the Navy.

He spent almost ten years in the military, and by the time he was honorably discharged, he had completed several deployments as a Sonar Technician aboard nuclear-powered fast-attack submarines!

Dr. Jamie is also a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and his time in the service cultivated his drive to help and serve others.

After his discharge, he started taking the first steps towards becoming a dentist, including attending San Diego State University and receiving his undergraduate degree.

He then completed dental school at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, arguably one of the best dental schools in the country.

Dr. Jamie’s unique background and experience, coupled with his passion for serving his community, translates to healthy, happy smiles for every patient lucky enough to sit in his dentist’s chair.

When he’s not at the office, he loves spending time with his wife of 28 years and his three sons. Chances are, you’ll find him barbequing for his family or going out for a bite to eat.

To Dr. Jamie, family is everything, and we’re happy to have him as part of our Dental Express family.

Doctor Marty Weinstein

Dr. Marty dealt with the issue that many recent graduates do. Once he got his diploma, he wasn’t sure what direction he wanted to go with his career.

He enjoyed the thought of becoming an engineer, an architect, or a doctor, and it took some time for him to figure things out…

But when he got the chance to shadow a dentist friend of his, he knew – within just a few days – that he had found his passion.

Getting to work with his hands, connect with patients, and make an impact on people’s lives was a dream for him.

So, he attended the San Francisco School of Dentistry and completed a residency with Veterans Affairs (VA), where he received training for more advanced treatments like root canals, dentures, implants, and oral surgery.

Outside the office, Dr. Marty is an avid surfer, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a spot along the Pacific Coast Highway that he hasn’t caught some waves at.

One of his favorite things to do is go hunting for the best taco and donut spots in San Diego with his wife, Morgan, and baby boy, Arthur.

Dr. Marty’s love for helping people shines through his work, and you can catch him spreading smiles to all his patients at our Santee location.

Doctor Jay Lopp

As opposed to Drs Jamie and Marty, Dr. Lopp’s love for dentistry started when he was twelve years old.

He had crooked teeth growing up, so he ended up getting braces. But little did he know, watching his smile straighten out over the next couple of years would ignite a passion for dentistry in him that would last the rest of his life.

By the end of high school, he was already researching how to become an orthodontist. He found out that to become one, he had to be a dentist first.

So, he completed his undergraduate education at Southeast Missouri State University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.

Upon graduating, he traveled to Miramar, San Diego, to continue his dental education as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Dental Corps.

But Dr. Lopp never went on to become an orthodontist. As a dentist, he was able to help people do much more than just straighten their teeth, and he fell in love with the freedom it gave him.

Thirty years later, he’s still in dentistry, building relationships with his patients and helping them create their ideal smiles.

Off the clock, Dr. Lopp is always ready to go skiing, and he loves hitting the slopes with his wife Carmen and their two daughters. He’s a true family man, and that’s why he fits in so well at Dental Express.
